Other religious buildings of the City are: the Romanesque-Florentine Church of S. Miniato al Monte (11th Century); the Gothic Churches of S. Croce (13th Century, also from a project by Arnolfo di Cambio), containing the “Tombs of the Greats” which inspired the poem “I Sepolcri” by Ugo Foscolo, S. Maria Novella (1246-1360), with its 15th Century façade by L.B. Alberti and containing the preserved masterpieces of Giotto, Masaccio, Lippi, Ghirlandaio and Paolo Uccello, not to mention a Crucifix, sculpted by a young Brunelleschi, Orsanmichele (a particularly sacred building from the 14th-15th Centuries, with two naves, salvaged from a Lodge); the Church of S. Maria del Carmine, with the Brancacci Chapel, and frescoes by Masaccio; the Gothic Church of SS, Trinita, with a façade by B. Buontalenti; then there are the churches projected by Brunelleschi, S. Spirito (15th Century) and S. Lorenzo (1442-46), with a Medicean Chapel, balcony by Michelangelo and Pulpits by Donatello.

Civil buildings: Palazzo Vecchio (1299-1314), probably projected by Arnolfo di Cambio, Loggia dei Lanzi (14th Century); Palazzo del Bargello (1255-1346), old seat of the Podestà and of the Head of Justice, today seat of the prestigious museum dedicated to Florentine sculpture; Ponte Vecchio (1345); Loggia della Signoria (Upper Classes Loggia), also known as Orcagna (14th Century); Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital for the Innocent) (1426) from a project by Brunelleschi and Palazzo Pitti (1458, with the Garden of Boboli), from an initial project by Brunelleschi, which was then drastically changed; Palazzo Rucellai by L.A. Alberti; Palazzo Medici-Riccardi (1444-59) by M. Michelozzi, containing frescoes by G. Gozzoli; Palazzo Strozzi (1489-1508) by B. da Maiano and G. da Sangallo; Palazzo degli Uffizi (Uffizi Building ) (1560), projected by Giorgio Vasari.

Museums: the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, which preserves a great part of sculptures and original works created for the decoration of the same Cathedral; Galleria degli Uffizi (Uffizi Gallery-Offices), Galleria Pitti or Palatina, Galleria dell’Accademia (mostly dedicated to sculpture by Michelangelo, amongst which David from 1504), Gallery of Modern Art, National Museum of Bargello, Museum of the Convent of S. Marco, dedicated to the art of B. Angelico, the Stibbert Museum, with its marvellous collection of artillery and ancient armour, the Horne Museum, to visit a Florentine house, with original furnishings and decorations.
