In the vicinity of the opposite
side of Lago Trasimeno on which Castiglione
of the Lago rises, there's Magione, a
small village risen around a Benedictine center then transformed
in a castle in the XV sec.
The Castello dei Cavalieri
di Malta, was famous in the past as mansio, from
which the name of the place. The castle has square plan with
an internal courtyard with three loggias and angular towers.
In Magione it is worthy of visiting the Palazzo Comunale with
frescoes by Geraldo Dottori and the Parrochiale
with frescoes by Pinturicchio's school.
Nearby it's possible to visit nice medieval villages like
Montecolognola, Monte Melino and Monte del Lago.
